2007 WORK PLAN TO STIMULATE A GREEN TECHNOLOGY AND RENEWABLE ENERGY ECONOMY

Youth apprenticeship program
SASD will coordinate significant development projects in 2007. Some of these projects are anticipated to be completed in 2007 and many will require several years to complete. Below are listed a few of the major projects planned for 2007.
  • Promote and coordinate the completion of local commercial-sized wind energy production contracts with municipalities for total production of between 10 and 100 megawatts.
    • Municipal owned or co-owned large-scale projects
    • Significant property tax relief potential
    • Significant greenhouse gas avoidance
    • Establish regional leadership in sustainable development
    • Significant high paying job creation during several year construction phase and afterward in maintenance
  • Facilitate development of local medium and small wind energy production projects.
    • Many projects between 5kw and 50kw
    • Commercial, agricultural and residential projects
    • SASD will coordinate with system providers and work to educate potential system owners on available financing options and the benefits of net metering.
  • Promote and coordinate local solar energy production contracts for up to 1000 kilowatts.
    • Schools, commercial buildings, municipal buildings, agricultural facilities and residential systems
    • SASD wil coordinate with system providers and work to educate potential system owners on available financing options and the benefits of net metering.
    • School tax relief, enhanced educational funds and energy price stability
    • Local job creation, both for installation and for ongoing systems maintenance
  • Provide education and youth programs.
    • Extend existing high school student program that heightens awareness and understanding of how to reduce electric consumption and of the values and practicalities of installing renewable energy
    • Implement youth apprenticeship program
    • Hold 10 more energy reduction and renewable energy workshops in 2007 that will be open to the general public
  • Establish a one-stop information clearing house and referral center.
    • Establish renewable energy, green building and energy consumption library and referral services data base, including maintaining a customer satisfaction rating listing for service providers
    • Provide referrals on materials, technology, installation services
    • Advertise the service so that it may be fully utilized

  • Search for new business and innovation
    • Look for clean, environmentally and economically sustainable industries and businesses that provide living wages for Sullivan County citizens
    • Facilitate the establishment of additional green technology and renewable energy business development
    • Develop renewable energy financial instruments and packages, working with local banks and governmental agencies
    • Advertise and educate citizens, government decision-makers and business owners and managers of the opportunities
