The Sunflower: a plant for the future?
The Sunflower: a plant for the future?
GEO-THERMAL systems take advantage of the 45-50 degree ambient temperature of the earth just six feet below ground level. This temperature is brought to the desired temperature through a compressor and circulation system. Geo-thermal systems do not qualify for subsidy. Systems are now available for homes as well as for much larger installations. Several members of SASD have received training in geo-thermal technology. Installation of a few systems is now under discussion.

HYDRO-POWER is by far the most cost effective renewable energy technology. Using the power of water pressure as its flows into a hydro-turbine to create electricity transforms the natural beauty of a stream or water fall to a second level of partnership with us. SASD is collaborating in the development of a significant hydro-system. There are many sites that could be harnessed to bring clean, renewable energy substitution for fossil fuel use. In the agricultural sector alone, the savings would be in the hundreds of thousands of tons of pollution per year and at the same time add a very powerful savings to farm operation expense.

BIO-FUELS
is a very important part of the renewable energy mix. SASD research indicates that in the near-term, space heating with bio-fuels is a better application than as vehicle fuel. Meetings with fuel companies and large consumers have been held to foster the use of space heating and non-mobile large engines. Grants for fuel oil depot reconfiguration and large suppliers of bio-fuels have been identified. SASD looks to the innovative leadership of local companies on bio-fuel benefits as SASD gives 2007 priority to the renewable energy systems benefits of solar, thermal and wind.

The second Saturday of every month, March through November, SASD offers a workshop presenting an overview of renewable energy systems for home and small business and information on installation and funding opportunities: SASD workshop schedule.
